Banteer, Bweeng, Cecilstown and Millstreet receives investment in its water infrasturucte

Water and waste water services in four villages in North Cork are to receive an investment of in excess of €250,000 by Irish Water in the coming months. This is as a direct result of lobbying by the Chairman of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District of Cork County Council, John Paul O’ Shea (Ind) to Irish Water who has been made aware of issues in these areas from his constituents.

Banteer village will see an upgrade to both the water services and waste water services for the village. €40,000 has being invested in recent weeks on improving and upgrading the source of the water supply for the village. A further €130,000 will be spent during the summer on upgrading the Waste Water Treatment Plant for the village.

Bweeng will see a further €40,000 investment in upgrade works to its water treatment facilities along with the installation of a pH correction mechanism for the supply there. Cllr O’ Shea said “there has been significant concerns in recent months in relation to the pH levels in the water supply in Bweeng and I am delighted to see Irish Water has activated on these concerns and put in place the appropriate infrastructure to give people an adequate and safe pH level in their water supply”.

The pumping station in the Waste Water Treatment Plant in Cecilstown is in the process of being upgraded presently which will ensure a consistency of service there into the future. Works included here will be the replacement and upgrading of existing pumping services which will cost in excess of €10,000.

A new water main from the Drishane Pump in Millstreet was also completed in recent weeks with further upgrades scheduled for the pump station in the coming weeks, representing a €30,000 investment in the water supply for Millstreet.

Welcoming the announcement of funding for the four North Cork villages, Cllr. O’ Shea said “This is the first investment North Cork has received from Irish Water since it was established. This funding is to be welcomed and no doubt will be of enormous benefit to the people living in Banteer, Bweeng, Cecilstown & Millstreet. It is important that as we are now paying for this utility that Irish Water re-invests back into the communities so they can receive an adequate service into the future”.
