Cork North West Fine Gael General Election candidate Councillor John Paul O’Shea has welcomed news that 30 community groups covering the Cork North West constituency have been allocated funding from the Department of Transport, Sport & Tourism as part of the Sports Capital Programme.

Cllr. O’Shea commented: “It is very welcome news that 30 community groups across the Cork North West constituency have today received funding through the Government’s Sports Capital Programme. Across Cork, more than €4.1 million in funding has been awarded. This funding will have an enormous impact on local community groups and allow ambitious and necessary projects to proceed and move to completion.
“Sport is at the heart of every community in Ireland and this funding, which will new the development of new facilities and the purchase of new equipment, will serve to increase participation across a host of different sports.”
Already this year a number of local community groups have benefitted from Sports Capital Programme funding.
Earlier this year Charleville Golf Club were awarded €112,000 for the purchase of new equipment; Dromahane Community Park Group were awarded €104,700 for the development of a walkway and running track in their new park; Newmarket GAA were awarded €26,000 for a multi-sports playing area; Lee Valley Rowing Club were awarded €12,000 for the purchase of rowing boats and oars; Donoughmore Hurling & Football Cub were awarded €11,298 and Kanturk Hillwalkers & Mountain Climbers were awarded €1,593 for equipment.
