The Cork County Beach Lifeguard Service came into effect last weeekend for the 2016 Season. The Beach lifeguards will be on patrol at the following beaches:-
The Warren, Inchydoney, Owenahincha, Tragumna, Barleycove, Garrylucas, Garretsown, Garryvoew, Front Strand, Claycastle and Redbarn.
Beach lifeguards will be on duty weekends only throughout June, full time in July, August and the first two weekends in September, from 10.30am to 7pm. You can find out more at the Cork CoCo Beach Lifeguard Service Facebook Page or on twitter at @CorkCoCoBeachLG.
Cork County Council implements a flag system on the beach. Make sure you know your Flag! A red flag denotes no swimming, red and yellow flags denote a lifeguard on duty with swimming advised between these and parallel to the shore. Black and white chequered flags denote surfing areas.
Caroline Casey, Cork County Council’s Water and Road Safety Development Officer says “Summer is here and we want everyone to have a fantastic and fun time on the stunning Cork beaches. I want to see everyone enjoy their day at the beach and would ask people to just keep in mind some simple safety aspects to your day out.
