Cllr. O’ Shea elected Chairperson of Mallow/Fermoy Area Committee Of Cork County Council

Independent Councillor John Paul O’ Shea was today elected unopposed as Chairperson of the Mallow/Fermoy Area Committee of Cork County Council. Cllr. O’ Shea takes over the position for the next year replacing Cllr. Danjoe Fitzgerald who held the position for the previous year.

The Area Committee gives the elected members of the Mallow and Fermoy electoral areas an ideal opportunity to raise pressing concerns and issues with engineering staff of the local authority. The Mayor of both Fermoy and Mallow towns are also repesented on the committee. The committee convenes on a monthly basis and discusses issues relating to housing, sanitary, environment and roads which councillors can raise on behalf of their constituents.

Commenting on his election as Chairperson, Cllr. O’ Shea said “I am delighted and honoured to have been elected as Chairperson of the Mallow/Fermoy Area Committee for the 2010/2011 period. Cork County Council is in the midst of its biggest challenge to date in order to ensure it can maintain and enhance the services it provides to the people of Mallow & Fermoy. With our budget for these services being depleted by Central Government on a regular basis, I am concious that during my term as Chairperson, we continue to lobby for more funding for the North Cork area and get the best value for money from the budget we are allocated. I am looking forward to the challenge and will endeavour to do my utmost for the people of Mallow & Fermoy”.
