Cork based MMD Construction LTD has been appointed to complete Phase 2 of Millstreet Community Hospital Refurbishment & Extension with works to commence imminently.
The Health Service Executive has this week confirmed to North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea that they have signed contracts with MMD Construction LTD for the second phase of refurbishment and extension works at Millstreet Community Hospital.
Welcoming the appointment of the Contractor, Cllr. O’Shea said “ I am delighted that we have moved to the next phase of the Hospital’s development. The refurbishment and extension at the Hospital will include the construction of a single-storey extension to the existing hospital, consisting of 11 ensuite bedrooms, dining room, kitchen store and changing facilities, new extended day rooms, toilets and assisted bathrooms, administration offices, relocated staff changing facilities, laundry room, plant room, meter room, new link corridor, and secure garden courtyard”.
Planning permission has been granted for these works along with the demolition of several structures within the grounds, including two existing single-storey rear extensions, part of a rear kitchen extension, garden wall to the rear of the site and roadside wall to the front of the building.
Other aspects of the works to be done as part of this development include: partial removal and alterations to the existing rear access road; provision of landscaped outdoor amenity and pathway; external site lighting; roof mounted PV panels; re-configuring and extending of existing car parking facilities from 18 spaces to 32 spaces and general upgrade of landscaping areas.
Cllr. O’Shea added “There is wonderful care being given to all residents at Millstreet Community Hospital by the very dedicated staff and management at the Hospital and it is important the facility is upgraded so this level of care can continue and we can enhance the number of beds available to the community of Millstreet and surrounding areas”.
