Cork County Council has this week signed contracts for the purchase of Mallow Town Park, Playground & Outdoor Gym lands.
Chairman of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District of Cork County Council, Independent Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea welcomed the purchase and said ”This is a major development in securing the future potential of Mallow as a social, active and community resource for the town. Cork County Council has been in negotiations regarding the purchase of the Town Park, Playground & Outdoor Gym lands for some years now and I am glad today, it has finally come to a successful conclusion. Cork County Council will now work closely with the local community in unlocking the great opportunity that this investment will provide over the coming years for the town and its environs”.
The location of Mallow Town Park in the urban area of Mallow town presents many unique opportunities to develop the Park as an amenity for the town and its environs. The location itself alongside Mallow Castle & Grounds which was also bought by Cork County Council in 2010 presents many opportunities to develop Mallow’s heritage and tourism potential over the coming years.
Cllr. O’ Shea concluded “The acquisition of Mallow Town Park, Playground & Outdoor Gym lands will be of tremendous benefit to Mallow and environs. While it will impose considerable responsibilities on Cork County Council, it is incumbent on us, that these lands are protected and safeguarded in the interest and on behalf of the community”.
