County Mayor welcomes €4.5m investment in sporting facilities throughout Cork

County Mayor welcomes €4.5m investment in sporting facilities throughout Cork

The Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea this week welcomed the recent announcement of the 2015 Sports Capital Programme allocations where in excess of €4.5m has been allocated to create new and improve existing sporting facilities within Cork.

The programme which is funded from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport is one of the main vehicles for supporting the development of sports facilities and the purchase of sports equipment.

Welcoming the funding allocations, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “This is a very welcome announcement for sporting groups and organisations in Cork. This funding will benefit greatly the many organisations who have worked extremely hard in recent months planning for such large infrastructural developments in their respective clubs and communities. All of these organisations have comprehensive plans in place to further develop their facilities within their community and while their existing facilities have served the community well over the years, the need for further enhancements and additional facilities within the grounds has been identified”.

Cork County Council is also investing a further €1.8m in community, sporting and recreational facilities throughout 2015 in Cork from its own resources. These monies have been allocated through the eight Municipal Districts through the Council’s three grant schemes; Community Grants, Community Contracts and Amenity Grants.

Mayor O’ Shea added “Cork County Council is delighted to support these community and sporting groups and looks forward to continuing to work with these groups with regard to planning and developing their sporting and community facilities further over the coming year”.
