A new €40 million fund for important sports capital projects is to be given out nationally during 2014 with the deadline of February 28th for application fast approaching.
The Sports Capital Programme is the main channel of financial support for developing sports facilities and purchasing sports equipment for sports clubs and organisations across Ireland.
Local Independent Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea this week said “The 2014 Sports Capital Programme will provide much needed capital funding for sporting organisations throughout the North Cork region. The 2012 Programme saw a record number of applications with nearly €4m allocated to worthy projects in Co Cork”.
Cllr. O’ Shea added “Under the programme, funding allocated will help pitches to be drained, floodlights to be installed, sports halls to be improved and dressing rooms to be built so I would encourage any sporting organisation out there to apply for these funds. Thanks to these grants, people will have more opportunities than ever to get active and stay active in a wide range of sports. It will also hopefully have an additional positive impact on job creation in the construction sector”.
Applications for the 2014 programme are now open and will only be accepted online, and organisations must be registered in order to apply. There are two key dates to remember:
- Closed for registration at 5pm on Friday 7th February
- Closed for applications at 5pm on Friday 28th February
