Dromahane & Scoil Ghobnatan National Schools in Mallow has this week secured funding from the Department of Education & Skills to assist in extending their prime educational facilities.
The funding will see the construction of two mainstream classrooms and two resource teaching/learning support rooms in Dromahane National School and four mainstream classrooms at Scoil Ghobnatan, Mallow. The new rooms will replace the old prefabricated buildings with permanent classrooms.
Welcoming the announcement, local Cllr. John Paul O Shea (Ind) said “this is a very positive development for the pupils and staff of both Dromahane & Scoil Ghobnatan National Schools. The schools have been liaising diligently with the Department of Education & Skills in recent months in order to secure the appropriate funding to proceed with this much needed development. This funding ensures that both schools can now proceed with the construction of these permanent mainstream classrooms and resource teaching/learning support rooms which is so badly needed for the future education of the pupils in the area”.
This week’s funding allocation is part of a targeted programme by the Department of Education & Skills aimed at replacing one third of all rented prefabs in 2012.
