Funding now available for Environmental projects in North Cork

North Cork Independent Councillor John Paul O’ Shea this week called on community and voluntary groups within North Cork to apply for funding through the 2014 Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund scheme.

Cllr. O’ Shea said “The scheme is designed to help increase local levels of environmental awareness or to help local communities become more sustainable”. Should you be interested in submitting a project for funding, please click on the below link for guidelines and application form.

Eligible projects are those that will support and complement, at a local level, national environmental policies such as those on Waste, Biodiversity, Climate Change, Air, Water and Sustainable Development.  A wide variety of projects and schemes have been supported under the Fund in previous years including, community gardens, allotments and compost schemes, rainwater harvesting schemes, educational initiatives and environmental exhibitions.

The Fund promotes sustainable development by assisting small scale, non-profit environmental projects at local level.  Funding provided by the Department of Environment, Community & Local Government is matched by Cork County Council.

Cllr. O’ Shea said “This fund shows how local initiatives can make a real difference in our communities, and showcases how small changes can make lasting improvements in our environment. However, funding is limited – €29,250 by the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government & €29,250 by Cork County Council – Total €59,000”.

Cork County Council can only award funding to those projects which best meet the strict qualifying criteria (see guidelines). Completed applications need to be submitted to Cork County Council Environment Department, Iniscarra, Co Cork (care of Finbar O’ Keeffe) before the closing date of 5.00pm on the 30th June 2014.
