New opportunity for Craft Makers, Artists or Designers who work with Wood

New opportunity for Craft Makers, Artists or Designers who work with Wood

Cork County Council’s Arts Service and Local Enterprise Office, in conjunction with Benchspace Cork invite applications for the Dearcan Bursary 2019. The bursary is open to any craft maker, artist or designer, currently resident in Cork County, working in the medium of wood or wood in combination with other materials.

The Dearcan Bursary takes its name from the Irish for acorn. Welcoming the announcement of the bursary, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Christopher O’Sullivan said “Cork County has a thriving craft sector known internationally for the quality of its production. Developing a sustainable career in craft and design requires imagination, skill and tenacity. I am delighted that Cork County Council and Benchspace have come together to provide a training and development initiative that will enable creative makers and designers interested in developing their practice in the medium of wood to work in a supportive and well equipped environment at Benchspace. Just as acorns grow into oak trees, this initiative provides space and time for development and experimentation which will hopefully lead to new, innovative work in wood.”

The Dearcan Bursary will provide an opportunity for the successful candidate to make a significant step forward in their professional career, whether they are a recent graduate, new start-up or seasoned professional. To facilitate this, it will support a twelve month period in the Benchspace workshop together with workshop fees, a living allowance and an allowance towards locally sourced materials.

Further details can be found by visiting http://benchspacecork.ie or emailing jobs@benchspacecork.ie.

The closing date is 5 pm, Friday, August 30th 2019.
