Village of Bweeng gets €62k to “play” with

The village of Bweeng is this week busy planning the establishment of their very own community playground after receiving funding of just over €62k from IRD Duhallow. The funding is provided as part of the Leader Rural Development Programme 2007 – 2013.

Welcoming the funding, local councillor John Paul O’ Shea (Ind) who is a board member of IRD Duhallow said “this is marvellous news for Bweeng and for the community it serves. Bweeng like many other villages in the county has grown considerably in recent years with a significant number of young families choosing to live in the area. The creation of a community playground will enhance the community life of the village and will also help to address the current identified needs of the area.

Bweeng has a long history of community involvement with in excess of 20 active community and voluntary groups in the area. Bweeng Community Hall Committee who will be the leading group advancing the community playground project has been in existence for over 50 years and has done tremendous work in developing the village over the years. They have recently developed basketball/tennis courts within the village while also completing a feasibility study to determine what future developments should take place in the village.

Cllr. O’ Shea added “the new playground will provide another key focal point within the village for families to enjoy and integrate within their community. The people of Bweeng have responded well over the years to the many new developments within the village and I am sure they will now embrace this new community playground also and strive to make their village a nice, enjoyable and positive place to live”.
