The Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District of Cork County Council has this week awarded over €233,000 to 102 community & voluntary groups throughout the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Area as part of its annual contributions scheme.
The contributions have been given to a variety of groups including Tidy Towns Committees, Resident Associations, GAA Clubs, Community Councils, Youth Clubs, Development Associations and many sporting organisations.
Welcoming the allocations, Mayor of the County of Cork who is also a member of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea (Ind) said “the commitment of Cork County Council to allocate grants to these deserving communities is indeed a very welcome and positive move. This money will certainly benefit the many community and voluntary organisations in the District who have worked very hard all year long developing and enhancing their amenities”.
The various contributions scheme supports community and voluntary groups who wish to build new or improve their existing facilities in their respective communities. The scheme can also be used for groups to purchase necessary equipment for their community facilities. Cllr. O’ Shea has continued to raise the importance of allocating funding to communities through these schemes since his election to cork County Council.
Some of the communities that will benefit from the 2016 Cork County Council Kanturk/Mallow District Contributions Scheme are as follows:
Community Contract Scheme
- Buttevant Community Council – Provision of footpath below vets corner to before right hand bend – €10,000
- Bweeng Development Association – Footpath from Bweeng National School to the Church – €20,000
- Dromahane Development & Tidy Town Association – Lawnmower Strimmer and Planting – €600
- Glantane Community Council – Extension to footpath Phase 2 – €20,000
- Liscarroll Community Council – Build stonewall and footpath to improve and enhance the appearance of the village – €10,000
- Mallow Tidy Towns – Ongoing maintenance, seasonal planting, special projects, cleanup campaigns – €3,700
- Twopothouse Development Association – Provision of 500m of footpath from Baltydaniel National School towards Doneraile – €10,000
- Banteer Tidy Towns – Provision of hanging baskets, flower boxes, pots, flower beds, school garden, planting in graveyard – €600
- Boherbue Development Association – Footpath from co-operative stores to graveyard – €10,000
- Kiskeam Development Assoc – Extension to footpath to New Shop Cross – €10,000
- Kiskeam – Araglen Dev Assoc – Repair & replace all missing bulbs and photocells and lamps for public lighting. Repair and replace broken timbers on footbridge. Fix and paint new shed on site. Grass cutting – €1,000
- Knocknagree Fairfield Committee – Upkeep lawn/garden – €600
- Millstreet Tidy Towns – Upkeep and maintenance of area. Planting, signage etc – €1,700
- Dromina Rural Development – Grass cutting & village maintenance – €600
- Kanturk & District Comm. Council – Improving appearance of town on entering from Mallow – €1,900

Cllr. O’ Shea added “It is heartening that Cork County Council remains in a position to provide financial assistance to support the wide range of amenities throughout the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District. We need to assist communities in maintaining and developing our facilities and encourage people to get involved in their respective communities.
