Proposals to update Exempted Development Regulations

Proposals to update Exempted Development Regulations

Today, the Government under the guidance of Minister of State John Cummins TD published proposals he is progressing to update exempted development regulations. This is the first major review of exempted development in nearly 25 years & its aim is to remove certain development from the requirement to seek planning permission thereby freeing up resources within Local Authorities.

The proposals fall under 4 broad headings;

  1. Domestic exemptions including a 45 sq/m exemption for standalone modular style homes to the rear of a dwelling.

  2. Rural exemptions including slurry storage & increased calving sheds

  3. Health and Education exemptions including modest extensions to facilitate the likes of the hot school meals programme.

  4. Infrastructure exemptions for certain works carried out utilities such as Uisce Eireann

There is a 4-week public consultation which has just commenced today and I along with Minister Cummins want to hear your views.
