Joint Committee on Social Protection, Rural and Community Development to discuss Social Enterprise Sector in Ireland
Jun 16, 2026
The Committee on Social Protection, Rural and Community Development will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 17 June, to discuss the Social Enterprise Sector in Ireland.
The meeting at 9:30am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will hear from Mr John Logue, CEO, and Mr Richard Bruton, Chairperson, Social Enterprise Republic of Ireland (SERI).
Ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy John Paul O’Shea said: “Social enterprises play a vital role in Ireland’s communities. Across the country more than 4,300 social enterprises employ close to 85,000 people. They are the community shops, cafes, creches, day care centres, meals on wheels, credit unions, enterprise hubs and local radio stations. They provide vital services and act as hubs for many in our communities.
“The Committee welcomes this engagement on Ireland’s social enterprise sector with SERI. Members look forward to discussing the development and growth of the sector and related matters with Mr John Logue and former Minister Richard Bruton.”
The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
