O’Shea Welcomes Almost €14 Million in ANC Payments to Cork Farmers

Deputy John Paul O’Shea TD has welcomed the commencement of Areas of Natural Constraints (ANC) payments, with more than €13.9 million being paid to over 6,100 farmers across County Cork.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has confirmed that €179 million in 85% advance ANC payments has commenced issuing to more than 85,000 farmers nationwide, with the remaining 15% balance due to commence in early December.

In Cork, 6,136 farmers are receiving a combined €13,971,798, providing a significant financial boost to farm families and the wider rural economy across the county.

Deputy O’Shea said “I am very pleased to see ANC payments now commencing, particularly given the importance of these payments to farmers across Cork and throughout rural Ireland. Almost €14 million is being paid to more than 6,100 Cork farmers through this first tranche of ANC payments. This is a very significant injection of money into farm families and into our rural communities.

“Farmers face considerable costs and pressures throughout the year, and getting these payments out as early as possible provides much-needed certainty and support. I know how important timely agricultural payments are to the farming community, particularly in areas where farming can be more challenging due to natural constraints.

“I want to acknowledge the work of Minister Martin Heydon and the Department of Agriculture in getting the 85% advance payment issued at this stage in September. Farmers should see the payment reach their bank accounts in the coming days.

“It is also welcome that the remaining 15% balance of the ANC payment is due to commence in early December.

“Looking ahead, I am also pleased to see that the Department is on track to facilitate the 75% advance payments under BISS, CRISS and the Eco-Scheme from 16 October. These payments are hugely important to the sustainability of family farms and to the strength of our rural economy.

“I will continue to advocate for the interests of farmers in Cork and ensure that agricultural supports and payments are delivered as efficiently and as early as possible.”
