O’Shea Welcomes Almost €83m in 2025 Regional & Local Road Grant Allocation Announced for Cork County
Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the announcement by the Department of Transport of the 2025 Regional & Local Roads Grant allocations.
A total of €82,838,900 has been allocated by the Department of Transport in respect of the maintenance and improvement of regional and local roads in Cork County this year.
Deputy O’Shea welcomed the funding saying “This investment is essential in ensuring safe connectivity across our local and regional road network. It will benefit towns, villages and communities throughout the county by further enhancing connectivity, supporting businesses and making it easier and safer to travel.”
A total of €40,715,500 will be allocated for restoration improvement and maintenance for roads, with €1,918,000 dedicated to bridge rehabilitation works. A further €2,184,000 will be allocated towards Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Works and €2,261,000 to drainage works.
This year’s allocation also includes a severe weather grant of €6.8m to address the effects of recent severe weather and to carry out essential repairs and road restoration works in the aftermath of recent storms.
This year’s allocation is broadly consistent with the 2024 allocation which represented one of the most significant years of funding investment in Cork roads in recent times.
Deputy O’Shea added “I am very happy to see this funding allocated here today which will go a long way in addressing the state of the roads in Cork and throughout the Cork North West constituency. The allocation will now be divided per Municipal District and I look forward to see works commencing on the 2025 Roads Programme over the coming days and weeks”.
