Issued on behalf of Mallow Chamber
Christmas comes early to Mallow this year with the new €35,000 Christmas lighting scheme being switched on almost two weeks early on Friday, November 28th, the same day a free 1 hour parking scheme for the Christmas period kicks in and the town hosts a visit by President Michael D. Higgins, who will be in Mallow to unveil the statue of Thomas Davis.
Santa has brought presents for Christmas shoppers too, with one hour free parking on the Main Street and in public car from Friday, November 28th until Christmas Eve. “In conjunction with the free parking already in existence from 9-10am and 5-6pm, we believe that this year, more than ever, there are lots of reasons to stay local for your Christmas shopping”, says Chamber President Kevin O’Keeffe. “It’s much less stressful than travelling to the city, spending time in long queues, and now, with up to three hours free parking per day, you can hit the shops at your convenience at no extra cost”.
With the new LED lighting system recently secured by Mallow Chamber and the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District of Cork County Council being rolled out, business owners and shoppers alike can expect a fresh new festive look to Mallow this Christmas. As well around the town’s new Plaza and Clock House, the lighting will be extended down Bridge Street and the Spa and Fair Street areas as well as being much more efficient than previous schemes.
Chairman of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District, Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea (Ind) said “The one hour free parking and new lights for Mallow this Christmas is a very timely boost for the town and one we should all support. The Municipal District has worked proactively with Mallow Chamber on this initiative which I am delighted has come to a successful conclusion”.
Mallow Chamber is once again asking business owners to put their festive foot forward with their window displays, to decorate their premises in a Christmas theme to add to the colour, atmosphere and experience of shopping in the town. The business judged most festive, will win free annual Chamber membership for 2015.
“It’s a busy time of year for our members and traders but each year, massive efforts go in to creating stunning Christmas windows. It would be just one way for Mallow to show President Higgins first hand the efforts they put in to increase footfall and attract more business through their doors”, says Kevin O’Keeffe.
Kevin O’Keeffe paid tribute to the combined efforts of Mallow Chamber, Mallow Traders Association and the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District who have all worked closely to ensure that there is positive news to celebrate in Mallow this Christmas. “It’s a critical time of the year for businesses and we hope by encouraging and enabling free parking for shoppers that it will result in a bumper Christmas season”.
