Festival and event organisers throughout the county will have opportunity to maximise their growth potential and generate additional revenue at Cork County Council’s Festival and Events Workshop, which is taking place at the Oriel House Hotel in Ballincollig, on the evening of January 22nd. In recognition of the importance that festivals and events play in the economic growth and cultural identity of the county, Cork County Council are delighted to host this Workshop, in conjunction with AOIFE (Association of Irish Festivals & Events).
All festival and event organisers in the county and members of their committees are welcome to attend this FREE Workshop, where they will gain valuable insights from industry experts, with additional opportunity for one-to-one mentoring with a multimedia specialist.
A wide range of topics will be covered on the evening around the managing, marketing and funding of festivals and events – including guidance on marketing and public relations, branding advice on Fáilte Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland’s Ancient East, objective setting and effective planning, stakeholder / volunteer management and tips on how to ensure regulatory compliance.
The Workshop ties in with the Council’s newly updated ‘Festival / Events Guidelines and Policies for Cork County’ which will be formally launched by the Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Patrick Gerard Murphy prior to the Cork Festival and Events Workshop.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Mayor reflected on the foregoing benefits of festivals in Cork. “Festivals and events deliver a range of economic, social, and cultural benefits. They entertain, they celebrate our communities, they showcase our villages and towns and are often an expression of identity and place. They help to stimulate local economic activity and enhance the visitor experience. It is therefore of vital importance that we continue to promote and support festivals countywide.”
Tim Lucey, Chief Executive of Cork County Council went on to say, “In 2018, Cork County Council contributed in excess of €500,000 in support of festivals and events in the county of Cork. With the launch of the updated Festival / Events Guidelines and Polices for Cork County and the hosting of these support Workshops for festival organisers, we are not only providing financial support, but also facilitating the effective running of the events for the benefit of the towns and villages of Cork. I would encourage anyone who is involved in festival / event running or thinking of hosting an event to come along to the workshop.”
