Mallow Castle will be sparkling with Christmas cheer and festive fun this weekend, as the second annual Cracking Christmas Fair takes place at the atmospheric town centre venue on Saturday, December 12th from 1-5pm.

The Castle grounds will play host to a Christmas Choo Choo train; a walkabout by Santa Claus; kids carousel; bouncing castle; face painting; gift stalls by local traders and businesses; festive food and drinks; seasonal performances by Baltydaniel National School, St Gobnait’s School Band as well as Cór Magh Ealla and Mallow Bible Gospel Singers; activities, games and storytelling.

Funded by Cork County Council, Mallow Development Partnership and Mallow Chamber, the afternoon event is sure to bring a smile to young and old. “Mallow Castle is a wonderful amenity right in the centre of our town”, says event organizer Mary Kelly, “and it’s the perfect location for all the fun we have planned for the weekend”.

“Christmas can be an expensive time of year, so this fair is about affordable family fun”, says Mary. “Santa decided this year that he doesn’t want any money from mummies and daddies and that he would prefer to walk around the grounds meeting all the boys and girls instead”.

And the good value continues as shoppers can avail of 10% off in participating outlets during the day. “We are expecting the traditionally busy 8th of December shopping day”, says incoming Chamber President Sean Lynch, “but our members are also hoping that the Christmas Fair and the extra 10% off will give people a further incentive to come to Mallow for their Christmas shopping and to enjoy the atmosphere”. There will also be a Monster Raffle during the day, with loads of prizes generously donated by local businesses, from hampers, restaurant vouchers, wine, tickets for horse racing and many more surprises on the day. More prizes can be dropped into the Mallow Development Partnership Office in Market Square.

There’ll be no reason for forgetting those on the Christmas gift list with lots of locally crafted and produced treats on offer at the Christmas Fair stalls. “There’ll be plenty of opportunity to pick up a really unique and different gift with homemade jams & chutneys; ethnic crafts; knitwear & crochet; oak wood crafted products; jewellery, beeswax candles & honey and maybe even your Christmas turkey”, says well known butcher Ian Lucey.

A large number of local groups are rowing in behind the Christmas Fair, with Mallow Men’s Shed providing the train; Mallow Tidy Towns ensuring the Castle grounds are kept spick and span; MH Designs providing soft furnishings and decoration for the marquee; Mallow Bible Fellowship providing sound on the day; The Farm, Grenagh supplying the Live Crib with volunteers from St Mary’s Transition Year & Mallow GAA Complex coming together to ensure the family fun day runs without a hitch!
