Cllr. O’ Shea Welcomes Dairygold Expansion in Mallow

Chairman of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District of Cork County Council, Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea (Ind)  today, 15th September 2014 warmly welcomed the announcement that Dairygold is to expand its operations in Mallow & Mitchelstown with a €117m investment in two new plants. The two new facilities will create 115 new jobs for the North Cork region and will best position Dairygold to take advantage of the growth opportunities offered by the EU’s abolition of milk quotas.

Cllr. O’ Shea said “Dairygold’s investment in the new plants in Mallow (€83.5m) and Mitchelstown (€33.5m) will have a significant positive spin off effect on the local economy in North Cork and furthermore, substantiates once again the key strengths and resources that the North Cork region has to offer as a location of choice for the growing agri-food and drinks sector”.

Cllr. O’ Shea added “It is important now that Dairygold is proceeding with this large expansion in Mallow, that the NRA and the Minister for Transport approve Cork County Council’s plans to proceed with the Northern Relief Road for Mallow in order to cater for the additional traffic this new expansion will create around the town. The NRA and the Minister for Transport are well aware of the need for the Northern Relief Road having led a delegation to the Minister and the NRA myself as Chairman of the Northern Committee in 2012. We need a commitment of funding now from the Government in order Cork County Council can proceed with the Northern Relief Road and compliment and cater for the needs this welcomed expansion to Dairygold brings to Mallow”.
