Artists from the barony of Duhallow will join forces in the Edel Quinn Hall, Kanturk on Saturday 2nd February next, to showcase their talents in aid of suicide prevention.
The concert which has been aptly named as “Duhallows Finest” will display a variety of local talent from the North Cork region, all in aid of a local organisation, who provide an invaluable suicide prevention service to the area.
Diadhuit Suicide Prevention Ireland offers a free professional psychotherapeutic service to adults in North Cork who may be contemplating or have previously attempted suicide. Qualified psychotherapists offer clinical psychotherapeutic one to one support to clients at a central location which gives the client the opportunity to talk to someone in confidence about their current thoughts and feelings and to share and learn about their situation and its dangers. This level of support allows the client with access to their dedicated psychotherapist for a 12 week period by the way of a face to face meeting on a weekly basis and direct contact by phone on a 24/7 basis if required.
Commenting on the upcoming concert, Chairperson of Diadhuit Suicide Prevention Ireland Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “We are thrilled so many people from the Duhallow area are willing to come out and support us in our fundraising drive and on behalf of Dia Dhuit Suicide Prevention Ireland, I want to thank each and everyone of them for taking the time out of their busy lives to support us. There is a tremendous line up of artists for the night which will showcase the many talents we have in the Duhallow region. All monies raised from this concert will go directly to fund our psychotherapeutic service”.
Diadhuit Suicide Prevention Ireland is a voluntary initiative and is a clinical therapeutic first response to clients with suicidal tendencies. The group which is the first of its kind in the country accepts referrals via GPs, Consultant Psychiatrists and other health professionals, thus placing Diadhuit right where it will be most effective, on the front line of service delivery. Diadhuit Suicide Prevention Ireland is governed by a voluntary board which includes a GP, solicitor, public representatives, local business people and volunteers.
Cllr. O’ Shea added “This funding will allow us to provide our clients who may have active thoughts of suicide a safe and confidential place for them to share and learn about their illness. Our role is to provide clients with the insight into the causes of their illness and to explore valid options and how they can deal with these thoughts. Helping clients to be aware of the devastating impact that suicide would have upon their family, friends and wider community is also a key component of our intervention and our professionals would ensure to identify and liaise with existing supports in the community and work in partnership with the medical profession and/or other support services in order to maintain a level of support to our clients into the future”.
“Duhallow’s Finest” concert will take place in the Edel Quinn Hall, Kanturk on Saturday, 2nd February 2013 commencing at 8pm sharp. Tickets are €10 and are available in shops throughout North Cork and tickets will also be available on the door on the night.
