North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the appointment of a contractor to construct 12 new social houses in Bluepool, Kanturk.
Cllr. O’Shea confirmed Cork-based Cumnor Construction Ltd has been appointed for the rapid-build project, with houses expected to be completed by Christmas. Work is set to commence within weeks. The development includes eight two-bed houses and four three-bed houses, with a focus on renewable energy design measures.
Supporting development works include: road improvement works, including localised widening and parking improvements to the public road at Bluepool Upper.
Cllr O’Shea said: “This is very welcome and positive news, especially the fact that this will be a rapid-build project and it is expected that the houses will be completed by Christmas of this year. I have worked closely on this development with the Council and Local Residents and I am glad that, as well as changing the original house type from terrace to semi-detached, a number of the two-bed houses will include the provision of a downstairs shower/wet room. This is especially important in terms of access for peoples with disabilities. I look forward to seeing this project develop over the coming weeks and months.”
