Cork businesses awarded funding to strengthen their online offering – O’Shea

Cork businesses awarded funding to strengthen their online offering – O’Shea
Three businesses in Cork have been awarded funding to help strengthen their online business and reach more customers, Cork North West Fine Gael General Election candidate Councillor John Paul O’Shea has revealed.

Cllr. O’Shea said: “Recipients of funding under the second round of the pilot Online Retail Scheme have been announced by my colleague the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD.

“I am delighted to confirm Casey’s Furniture, Yarn Vibes and Organico Shop, Café & Bakery were successful in their applications.

“The successful applicants will receive between €10,000 and €25,000 to help them to enhance their online sales capabilities, which will allow them to reach new customers at home and abroad.

“This is important for businesses to help them to future proof. Fine Gael believes in promoting business and entrepreneurship, and is working to help support SMEs.

“The Fine Gael-led Government is actively working on its Future Jobs strategy to ensure that high quality jobs are protected in a changing business landscape.

“This scheme is one example of that.

“Our local retailers in Cork are bringing high quality goods to people locally and this funding will help them bring the same in-demand products to a wider audience,” Cllr. O’Shea added.

The Online Retail Scheme was introduced by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation as part of the ongoing work of the Retail Consultation Forum, which Minister Humphreys chairs.

Minister Humphreys said: “As part of the Government’s Future Jobs Ireland framework, the pilot Online Retail Scheme is an important initiative to ensure that our retail businesses can remain competitive in a changing world where traditional business operations are increasingly being disrupted by new technology.

“Supporting the retail sector is critical to sustaining a robust regional economy, which my Department is committed to, particularly in the context of Brexit and the challenges that lie ahead. Increasing the international sales of Irish retailers through the online channel translates into sustaining and creating high-quality, sustainable jobs across the country.

“The funding of €659,550 brings the total to 40 retail businesses who are benefiting from the scheme,” Minister Humphreys concluded.
