Cork County Council introduces Special Speed Limits (30KMPH) for Housing Estates

Cork County Council introduces Special Speed Limits (30KMPH) for Housing Estates

The members of Cork County Council this week voted to introduce Bye-Laws which will apply a 30km per hour special speed limit in a number of housing estates throughout the County.

These by-laws will come into effect on the 28th day of September 2015. Commenting on the implementation of the new Special Speed Limits, the Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “This initiative, which is being implemented nationwide in all local authorities on a pilot basis arises from a circular issued by the Minister for Transport Pascal Donoghue, TD, in late 2014 responding to a public call for lower speed limits in housing estates throughout the country. A council spokesperson said that “the Council is pleased that the members had voted for the new bye-laws in a prompt fashion. Public safety is of paramount importance to the Council and this is another forward step to ensuring our children can enjoy a safer environment”.
