The Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Declan Hurley, officially opened the Business Growth Hub, the new headquarters of the Councils Department of Economic Development, Enterprise and Tourism on Monday, June 11th. The Business Growth Hub is located in the former Motor Tax Office at the rear of County Hall.
The Councils Department of Economic Development, Enterprise and Tourism is responsible for supporting and promoting Cork County as an attractive location for businesses to locate, establish and expand and for people to invest, work, live and visit.
Speaking to representatives from the enterprise support agencies, higher education, entrepreneurs, community groups, and other stakeholders who support and promote Cork County; Cllr. Hurley said “These new offices, accommodating approximately forty staff, emphasises the important role that the Council has in promoting the economic development of the County. The building also houses the vitally important Community Development Section and the Age Friendly Programme.”
In welcoming the opening of the Business Growth Hub, Chief Executive, Mr Tim Lucey, said that “Cork is making a significant contribution to our national prosperity” and referred to “the Councils role in promoting the economic development of Cork County,the strong cohort of enterprises trading across all sectors in Cork and our particular strengths in life science, food, technology, business services, financial services and engineering.”
Cork County Council is supporting economic development, enterprise and tourism throughout the County with initiatives such as:
· Providing Business Parks, Industrial Sites, Enterprise Centres and Incubator Units throughout the county.
· Providing financial supports through grant aid from the LEOs and the Economic Development Fund (EDF).
· Supporting our local ratepayers with supports and a variety of capacity raising initiatives available from the Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs).
· Collaborating with international, national, regional, and local partners to promote Cork, facilitate exports, trade and the sharing of best practice.
