Cork festivals get funding boost – O’Shea

Funding of over €24,000 has been allocated for Small Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools taking place in Cork, Cork North West Fine Gael Td John Pual O’Shea  has said.

Deputy O’Shea said, “Two local festivals, Art for the Heart Doneraile and Rockchapel Gathering Festival have got funding in Cork which recognises the hard work of everyone working behind the scenes to bring communities together.”

The scheme is designed to assist local cultural events which may not be eligible under funding criteria for larger scale events such as those supported by Fáilte Ireland, the Arts Council and similar bodies. 

The closing date for applications was 1pm on the 2^nd April 2026. Funding was allocated following a competitive applications process, with a maximum grant of €5,000 available.

Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media, Patrick O’Donovan said:

“Culture and the arts play a vital role in enriching our society, strengthening communities and preserving Irelands unique heritage. Through the support of my Department, festivals and summer schools across the country continue to provide opportunities for people to connect, learn and celebrate our shared traditions.

“These events showcase the richness of Ireland’s cultural life and reflect the dedication and creativity of the organisers, volunteers, artists and communities who make them possible. I extend my sincere thanks to all involved and encourage everyone to take the opportunity to enjoy the excellent programme of cultural events taking place throughout 2026.”

Deputy O’Shea concluded by saying, “This is another example of Fine Gael in Government delivering real funding for communities on the ground in Cork. I’ll continue to back local groups that add so much to life here.”
