13 cemeteries in the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District have been included in Cork County Council’s proposed 2019 Cemetery Works Programme, according to North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea. The estimated cost of the proposed works is €156,000 and actual works to be undertaken are subject to tender costs and available resources.
The list of proposed works is as follows:
Cullen – Build wall for bay, install 70 metres of new beam and 70 metres of footpath
Dromagh (new) – Lay 80 metres of new footpaths and 50 metres of double beam, replace existing calvery, and car park resurfacing
Dromtariff – Capping for stone wall
Nohaval – Stone work on old tomb
Clonmeen – 40 metres of stone wall to be rebuilt
Banteer – New beams
Burnfort – Renew existing footpaths – phase 1
Castlemagner – New calvery, remove large trees, and new low-level painting
Clonfert – New footpaths
Kanturk – Kerbing to each side of roadway on lower section, wet-mix, and tar and chip lower section of roadway
Deliga – Tar and chip lower section of roadway
Tullylease – Construction of new footpaths and pedestrian entrance
Gouldshill – Provision of new walls and fencing, making good existing walls, installation of new footpaths and bollards, removal of tree stumps, and replacement of windows in store.
Welcoming the works programme, Cllr. O’Shea said “It is vitally important we look after the graveyeards where our loved one are buried. Many relatives of loved ones have brought these works to my attention over the last 12 months so I am glad they are now on a programme of works for completion. I also want to take this opportunity to thank all our Registrars and Caretakers of Council’s graveyeards who do some great work for the community”.
