€425,000 is to be awarded to Cork Sports Partnership and €300,000 is to be allocated to Active Disability Ireland from the Dormant Accounts Fund, Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has said.
The €5m in funding across the country will support a range of projects in disadvantaged areas, promote female participation, and provide opportunities for people with disabilities.
Cllr. O’Shea who is a Fine Gael General Election candidate in Cork said:
“I am thrilled to see €425,000 allocated to Cork Sports Partnership with funding to help ensure that regardless of background or ability, people will have the opportunity to participate in and enjoy the benefits of sport.
“Sport plays such a vital role in our communities here in Cork, led by wonderful volunteers at a grassroots level.
“The funding from the Dormant Accounts Fund will also enable Active Disability Ireland to continue to work with Local Sports Partnerships to deliver training and build awareness around people with disabilities participating in sport. Barriers will also be reduced through minor infrastructure development and the provision of equipment.
“It will also support and empower volunteers, including youth leadership training, coaching and development programmes and targeted training for volunteers who are from or who work in disadvantaged areas and/or people with disabilities.
“The Olympics and Paralympics this summer gave us all the chance to appreciate the joy of sport, and I am delighted that funding will promote inclusivity and accessibility in sports across Cork,” Cllr. O’Shea concluded.
