North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has welcomed confirmation that tenders have been issued for Phase 1 of the extension and refurbishment to Kanturk Community Hospital.
In welcoming the tender process, Cllr. O’Shea said “Today very much marks a new era for healthcare in Kanturk with the publication of tenders for the Hospital’s refurbishment and extension. Planning permission was granted by Cork County Council for the works in recent months and it is great to see works advancing here now. I sincerely hope we can get a contactor appointed here quickly once the tenders are returned and we can commence the extension and refurbishments works this summer.
In Phase 1, the bed capacity will increase again in Kanturk Community Hospital with 43 beds available to the community once works are completed. I am also very pleased to say that in planning this development, the HSE has future proofed the site so as to extend the total number of beds at the Hospital to 77 beds in future phases.
Cllr O’Shea added “it is very welcome to see that progress is now being made in Kanturk. There is wonderful care being given to all residents at Kanturk Community Hospital by the very dedicated staff and management at the Hospital and it is important the facility is upgraded so this level of care can continue and we can enhance the number of beds available to the community of Kanturk and surrounding areas”.
