Cork County Council has confirmed this week that An Bord Pleanala has granted planning permission to accommodate an extension to Rockchapel Graveyard.
Cork County Council will now proceed and complete the land acquisition process here and then construct the new extension to the graveyard at Rockchapel which will accommodate 193 new plots.
Welcoming the confirmation that planning has been approved for the extension to Rockchapel Graveyard, North Cork Fine Gael Cllr. John Paul O’Shea Said “This is very welcome news for the people of Rockchapel and surrounding areas. The current graveyard in Rockchapel has been at capacity for sometime now and I am delighted we have now secured planning permission to proceed with developing this extension. I look forward to seeing this completed as soon as possible”.
Cllr. Gerard Murphy also welcomed the announcement by saying “I have been contacted by many constituents in recent years who were seeking to purchase new graves in Rockchapel but unfortunately were not able to do so. I want to thank the Council for pursuing this extension on behalf of the people of Rockchapel and to the local landowner for being so accommodating in this regard”.
