Cork County Council has confirmed this week that agreement has been made to purchase additional lands to accommodate an extension to Rockchapel Graveyard.
Cork County Council will now proceed and advertise a Part 8 (Council Planning Process) to extend the current graveyard in Rockchapel.
Welcoming the confirmation of the extension to Rockchapel Graveyard, Cllr. John Paul O’Shea Said “This is very welcome news for the people of Rockchapel and surrounding areas. The current graveyard in Rockchapel has been at capacity for sometime now and I am delighted we have now secured additional lands to accommodate an extension to the graveyard. I look forward to seeing this process being completed as soon as possible”.
Cllr. Gerard Murphy also welcomed the announcement by saying “I have been contacted by many constituents in recent years who were seeking to purchase new graves in Rockchapel but unfortunately were not able to do so. I want to thank the Council for pursuing this extension on behalf of the people of Rockchapel and to the local landowner for being so accommodating in this regard”.
