The provision of free schoolbooks will alleviate economic burdens for parents of students in junior cycle, primary, and special education, Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has said.
Cllr O’Shea noted that the expansion of the program this year to include junior cycle students at secondary level demonstrates Fine Gael’s dedication to making education more affordable.
“Parents and guardians in Cork North West can now feel relieved as the school year approaches. The financial burden of school supplies, which can be substantial, has been lifted for primary school and Junior Cycle students.
“This year, Fine Gael has expanded the free schoolbook program to cover 212,000 junior cycle students across roughly 670 secondary schools across the country, including in Cork North Wst.
“This initiative not only saves Cork North West families money but also time they would have spent gathering school supplies, as schools are now fully equipped to distribute all essential materials before the school year starts.
“Now, 775,000 students across secondary, primary, and special education schools will have access to schoolbooks, notebooks, and, where possible, other classroom resources, all fully funded.
“Fine Gael has undertaken serious commitment to support educational paths for students and lessen cost-of-living stresses for families, and will continue to do so into the future.
“This initiative goes beyond just economic relief; it ensures that every student in Cork North West, no matter their background, has access to necessary educational resources. This kind of equality in the classroom enhances the learning experience for everyone.
“In light of these benefits, it is now crucial for the Minister for Education to consider extending free schoolbook services to Senior Cycle students.
“Fine Gael is committed to nurturing an inclusive and equitable educational environment.
“We are dedicated to ensuring that every child has the best possible start in life and will continue to strive to eliminate educational barriers. This effort is proof of our commitment to building a better future for families across the country,” Cllr O’Shea concluded.
