Funding Allocated to Sporting Clubs and Community Groups in Cork under the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme

Funding Allocated to Sporting Clubs and Community Groups in Cork under the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme

The Government has today awarded much needed funding to many sporting clubs and community groups in Cork under the latest round of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme.

I am delighted to see that almost 60 projects throughout Cork North West will benefit from funding which is great news for the constituency.

Since 1998, more than 13,000 projects have benefited from sports capital funding, bringing the total allocations in that time to approximately €1.15 billion. It is generally accepted that the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme has transformed the sporting landscape of Ireland with improvements in the quality and quantity of sporting facilities in virtually every village & town across Ireland.

Today’s announcement follows on from allocations made earlier this year of over €26m in equipment-only grants – with €2.95m of this allocated to groups and clubs in Cork. This represented the largest-ever allocation of equipment-only grants under the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme to date which will be of practical benefit to multiple sports organisations, their members and athletes across Ireland.

I know that every club and sporting organisation who applied under this round of the Sports Capital Programme have been eagerly awaiting confirmation regarding their applications. I hope the groups successful today are pleased with their allocation which will allow them to proceed with the projects they have planned.

I want to wish all groups well as they progress to drawdown this funding over the coming months and provide the much needed new and refurbished sporting facilities in their communities.

John Paul
