HSE Needs to Prioritise Transfer of Residents to New Extension of Millstreet Community Hospital
Mar 05, 2025
Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has today, 4th March 2025 called on the HSE to expedite the registration of the new extension at Millstreet Community Hospital with the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA).
Deputy O’Shea said “I’m very disappointed with the HSE at the delay in applying to HIQA to register the new extension at Millstreet Community Hospital. The building is complete with months and the residents in the old part of the Hospital along with the staff are all anxious to move to the new building as soon as is practically possible. I have been engaging with the HSE on this matter since it was brought to my attention a few weeks back. The Government have invested in this Hospital with the building of a brand new building comprising of 11 new beds for the Hospital which are state of the art single occupancy rooms with ensuite bathrooms and all associated works included. We need the registration completed with HIQA as soon as possible so the residents and staff can transfer over”.
“Once the current residents are transferred over, the next task will be to refurbish the old part of the Hospital and provide a further 15 beds giving a total number of beds in Millstreet Community Hospital to 26 beds. The community of Millstreet have been waiting and waiting for their Hospital to be upgraded so I am encouraging all stakeholders to ensure this happens without any further delay” added Deputy O’Shea.
