Irish Water Making Good Progress on €2m Improvement Works To Ballydesmond Water Supply

Irish Water Making Good Progress on €2m Improvement Works To Ballydesmond Water Supply

North Cork Fine Gael Councillor, Cllr John Paul O’Shea, has this week welcomed an update by Irish Water on works to improve the water supply network in the village of Ballydesmond. Following the appointment of a contractor earlier this year to lay more than 10.5km of watermains from Kiskeam village connecting the Ballinatona Public Water Supply Scheme to Ballydesmond, Irish Water has confirmed that 5km of watermain has already been laid with works continuing unabated.

Along with the new watermains, progress is also being made on the provision of a new reservoir for the Scheme. The proposed site and valuation has been agreed with the landowner for the construction of a reservoir between Ballydesmond and Kiskeam. A site for a new pumpstation, which will be configured to supply water to Ballydesmond while the reservoir is being constructed in the interim, has also been agreed and planning and procurement is being progressed for this work.

Cllr O’Shea this week welcomed the update on the ongoing work and said the community in Ballydesmond have waited too long for an adequate water supply. “It’s taken a long time to get to this point, where works are actually moving forward and we can begin to see light at the end of the tunnel, but it is important that we keep working and keep pushing to get the entirety of this project over the line. This has been a serious issue for residents in Ballydesmond for a long time. The update by Irish Water is indeed welcome news and I expect work to continue at pace over the coming weeks and months.”
