Irish Water and Cork County Council are working to restore a normal water supply in the village of Banteer and surrounding areas after the supply was shut down yesterday afternoon due to an unexpected change in the colour of the water from the local spring source.
As this was unusual for this particular source, a decision was made in the interest of public safety to shut down the supply while the issue was being investigated.
While these investigations are ongoing, Irish Water and Cork County Council are supplementing the supply by bringing in tankers of treated water. This is being fed directly into the water network at present in order to maintain a water supply to as many customers as possible.
Three additional tankers will also be made available in public areas for customers who are experiencing disruption to their supply. They will be located at the following locations:
- Banteer Church
- Banteer School
- Rathcool School
We would request customers in the Banteer area who currently have a supply to continue to conserve their water. Our customer care helpline is open 24/7 and we would encourage any vulnerable customers who are not registered with us to contact us on 1850 278 278 for further information.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of this unforeseen event which we are working as a matter of priority to resolve as quickly as possible.
Regular updates will be posted on the Service and Supply section.
