Joint Committee on Social Protection, Rural and Community Development to meet with Charities Regulator

The Joint Committee on Social Protection, Rural and Community Development will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 3 December, with the Charities Regulator to discuss Overview and Regulation of the Charities Sector.

Ahead of the meeting at 9:30am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy John Paul O’Shea said: “The Charities Regulator is responsible for the registration, regulation and oversight of charities in Ireland. The Regulator’s key roles include ensuring compliance and accountability by charity trustees with their duties under current legislation, and increasing public trust and confidence in the management and administration of charities.

“The Committee welcomes this engagement with the Charities Regulator, represented by its Chief Executive, Ms Madeleine Delaney, and Director of Legal Affairs and Registration, Ms Rachel Rodgers, and looks forward to a wide-ranging discussion. Areas of interest for Members include the Regulator’s key roles and functions, details of its Strategic Plan for 2025-2027, regulatory changes being introduced by the Charities Amendment Act 2024, and related matters.”

The Joint Committee on Social Protection, Rural and Community Development has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
