The excitement of new Christmas lights in Mallow town last year is to continue this year with a further investment of over €25,000 for more new lights for Christmas 2015.
€35,000 was invested in new lights for the town in 2014 which purchased new lights for the Main Street, The Spa and Bridge Street. It also included the attractive Christmas ball feature over the new Plaza and the reflection of snow falling in front of the iconic Clock House.
Welcoming the news that a further investment in Christmas Lights for Mallow is to take place this year, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “Investing in new Christmas lights for Mallow represents a strong economic boost for the town and I am delighted the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District is in position to support this investment. The money for these new lights which was approved at our recent Municipal District meeting will come from the pay parking dividend allocated to Mallow town”.
The Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District of Cork County Council is working closely with Mallow Chamber of Commerce on this initiative and many more initiatives for the town. There was wonderful feedback last year with the success and enthusiasm the new lights brought to the town and it is hoped likewise will happen this year once the official Christmas period gets underway.
Mayor O’ Shea added “My hope is that we would be in a position to continue this support to Mallow over the next few years replacing all the lights in the town with new LED lights which are far more modern and cost effective than the current older lights. Mallow is one of the biggest towns outside Cork city and we must all collectively ensure that Mallow and all other towns in the District namely Buttevant, Kanturk, Millstreet & Newmarket are showcased as key towns in North Cork to shop in this Christmas”.
