Mallow is to get an early Christmas present this year with the purchase of new Christmas lights for the town.
The Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District of Cork County Council and Mallow Chamber have worked very closely together in recent weeks in order to bring about this €35,000 investment for the town. This investment will include for new lights to be erected in the Main Street, The Spa and Bridge Street. There will also be a specific Christmas feature over the new Plaza and Clock House.
Welcoming the news, Chairman of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District of Cork County Council, Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “Investing in new Christmas lights for Mallow represents a strong economic boost for the town and I am delighted we are in position to support this investment. Our hope would be that we can continue this support to Mallow over the next few years replacing all the lights in the town with new LED lights which are far more modern and cost effective than the current lights. Mallow is one of the biggest towns outside Cork city and we must all collectively ensure that Mallow is showcased as one of the towns to shop in this Christmas”.
President of Mallow Chamber, Kevin O’ Keeffe said “We in Mallow Chamber on behalf of our members are delighted that the hard work Mallow Chamber has been doing with Cork County Council has paid off on behalf of the Businesses in Mallow Town. Cork County Council has to be congratulated for bringing this long held goal to fruition. Mallow Chamber will also be significantly aiding the investment financially. Some of the old lights will also be located in Fair Street this year. It is expected that everything will be in place for the Presidential visit on the 28th November 2014”.
