Mallow Development Partnership (MDP) in association with the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District of Cork County Council and Mallow Chamber, have engaged the services of Mr Cathal O’Meara, Landscape Architect to prepare an urban design and landscape architectural plan to assist in the preparation of the Mallow Local Area Plan 2015-2021.
The aim is to prepare and implement a detailed Town Improvement Scheme to visually enhance the streetscapes and key urban spaces in the town centre and approach roads and to consider solutions to improve pedestrian / cycle connectivity between Mallow North and Mallow South.
The proposed plan addresses such items as functional laneways, shop front strategies, refurbishment of derelict buildings, back of buildings in parking areas and attractive development of existing laneways to create greater connectivity to the town centre and public spaces around the town.
Some of the objectives identified to develop the plan are to deliver a more pedestrian, cyclist and public transport friendly environment; integrating land use and transport in the town centre with surrounding residential, school and employment areas; improving the appearance of the centre and surrounding streets (lighting, signage, landscaping etc); undergrounding of utility cables; rationalisation of traffic flow and public realm security (CCTV).
