Mental Wellness Exhibition and Seminar in Mallow – Friday 16th November

Lookout, a community and voluntary group in North Cork who aim to promote mental wellness and help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness is hosting a Mental Wellness Exhibition and Seminar on Friday 16th November next in the Hibernian Hotel, Mallow, Co Cork.

The event will run from 9.30am – 10.00pm and is open to the general public. Everyone is welcome and admission is FREE.

Secondary school students will attend the exhibition from 9.30am – 3.00pm. Guest Speakers include: Ms. Kathleen Lynch T.D., Minister for Disability, Equality, Mental Health and Older People, Dr. Gillian O’ Brien (Headstrong), HSE North Cork Community Mental Health Team, Shane Mullins and GMC Beats (Rap Artist/Musician).

This will be followed by an exhibition which includes information stands from; Anchor Treatment centre, An Garda Siochana, Nano Nagle Centre, Cura, Charleville Suicide Awareness, Al Anon, Cloyne Diocesan Youth Service, Mallow Primary Health Centre, Cork Mental Health Foundation, HSE North Cork Community Mental Health Team, Loinnir Support Group, MABS, Kerry Adolescent Counselling Service and many more. The exhibition will run from 3.00pm – 8.00pm.

An evening seminar will follow at 8.00pm with contributors including: HSE North Cork Community Mental Health Team, Dr. Bertie Daly, GP, Dr. Tony Heffernan, GP and Shane Mullins. Shane, who is from Galway survived a road traffic accident and will outline his story of how he dealt with the tough times following his accident.

Lookout was founded in 2010 with the aim of promoting mental wellness, providing information, reducing stigma and creating awareness of mental health issues. The group is a selection of local people including secondary school students, college students and adults, both young and old who are disseminating as much information as possible into the public domain about the local and national organisations and services relating to mental health and staying well.
