Tourist attractions from the North Cork region feature strongly in a new tourism brand initiative launched recently by the Minister for State at the Department of Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin T.D.
Munster Vales, a new and vibrant tourism destination brand incorporating the Comeraghs, Knockmealdowns, Galtees, Ballyhouras and Nagles mountain ranges is a holiday experience where history and heritage blend seamlessly with modern Irish life in an unforgettable travel experience. The brand offers visitors to North Cork 1,100km of way-marked walking routes, 96 activities and attractions, 9 historic heritage sites and an array of accommodation, festivals and locally produced, delicious food.
Munster Vales crosses the magnificent counties of Tipperary, Limerick, Cork and Waterford and offers visitors the opportunity to experience exhilarating activities, unrivalled vistas, lush valleys, surging rivers, cascading waterfalls, rugged coastline, a millennia old landscape, the origin of Ireland’s great legends and folklore.

Attending the launch of Munster Vales in Lismore recently were Myra Ryall, Doneraile, Nicky Carroll, Cork County Council, Cllr. Kay Dawson, Padraig Casey, Ballyhoura Development, Valerie Murphy, Avondhu Blackwater Partnership & Ann Coughlan, Buttevant.
Attending the launch, North Cork Councillor John Paul O’ Shea said “Munster Vales is a new and very welcomed initiative for Tourism in North Cork. It involves the communities themselves who are the heart of the wonderful attractions that North Cork is home to. It is by working closely with Cork County Council and stakeholders such as Avondhu Blackwater Partnership & Ballyhoura Development that we can continue to build, promote, market and develop the North Cork region as Ireland’s key inland visitor destination in both the domestic and overseas markets. I am delighted to see the towns in my own area of Mallow & Buttevant included in this new tourism brand along with the villages of Liscarroll, Doneraile, Churchtown & Cecilstown who all boast their own respective tourist attractions. This can only be a positive for North Cork and is a recognition of the Tourism assets we have here in spades within the region”.
Munster Vales also offers you the choice of bundling a number of activities into one package and to make a day (or a few days of it!!) while you are in North Cork. It will offer you the choice of attractions and accommodation to choose from throughout the region. Whether you want to take on, be it the Heritage sites of Mallow & Buttevant, a visit to the Donkey Sanctuary in Liscarroll or an adventure day in Ballyhass Lakes, Munster Vales has what you need!
