North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has congratulated Banteer Community Sportsfield on being announced as a Cork County category winner in the National Lottery Good Causes Awards 2019.
According to Cllr. O’Shea, the group will now progress to the regional finals which will be announced later this month. Should the group make it through the regional finals and secure a place in the national final, the winner will be announced at a Gala Dinner in the Clayton Hotel, Dublin in November. The national final includes category winner prizes of €10,000 and an overall winner prize of €35,000.
Five groups in County Cork were announced as county winners, across five categories: Sport, Health & Wellbeing, Heritage, Community, and Arts & Culture. Banteer Community Sportsfield were announced as winners in the community category. Cllr. O’Shea said the award is just recognition for the tremendous community work that takes place in Banteer and the huge role the sportsfield plays not only for the community of Banteer but right across North Cork.
“Banteer Community Sportsfield is a worthy recipient of the County Cork National Lottery Good Causes Awards and I am confident that the group will be further recognised at the national final later this year. I was delighted to help secure funding for the Banteer Community Sportsfield earlier this year, to the tune of €1.1 million, through the Rural Regeneration & Development Fund. This funding will go towards a range of new amenities at the sportsfield, amenities that will have a hugely positive impact for both the local and wider community.
“The National Lottery Good Causes Awards are aimed at honouring the inspiring work and achievements of thousands of projects, clubs and individuals all over Ireland with the help of Good Causes funding. Banteer Community Sportsfield and everyone involved deserves great credit for the work that has taken place over the last number of years and for having the vision to improve and build on the existing amenities,” Cllr. O’Shea added.
