Apr 16, 2026
Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has warmly welcomed the significant expansion of Cygnum’s manufacturing facility in Macroom, describing the €8 million investment as a major boost for employment and housing delivery across Cork and beyond.
Deputy O’Shea attended the official opening of the new extension and said it was encouraging to see such ambition and confidence in the region. The expansion will see Cygnum increase its production capacity from 1,400 to 2,500 timber frame housing units per year, while creating 150 new jobs in the region.
Deputy O’Shea said “It was a pleasure to attend the official opening of this impressive new facility in Macroom. This is hugely positive news for the area and the wider Cork region. The creation of 150 new jobs represents a significant investment in our local economy and provides real opportunities for workers and families locally. It is a strong vote of confidence in the skills and talent available here.”
He added that the expansion will play an important role in addressing Ireland’s housing needs.
“Cygnum is at the forefront of modern methods of construction, and this expansion will directly contribute to increasing the supply of much-needed homes. By boosting production capacity to 2,500 units per year, the company is helping to deliver homes faster and more efficiently at a time when housing delivery is a national priority.”
Deputy O’Shea also highlighted the wider regional benefits of the development.
“This investment not only supports job creation but also underpins the delivery of housing projects across the country, including in rural towns and communities. Increased housing output will help ensure that more families can access homes, while also supporting balanced regional development.”

Local Fine Gael Councillor Ted Lucey also welcomed the announcement, stating “This is a very significant and positive development for Macroom and the surrounding areas. The creation of 150 new jobs will be a major boost for local families and businesses, while the increased capacity at Cygnum will play an important role in helping to deliver much-needed housing. It is great to see continued investment and confidence in our community.”
Deputy O’Shea also commended the leadership and ambition of Cygnum, as well as its parent company Chadwicks Group and Grafton Group.
“I want to pay tribute to the management and staff of Cygnum for their continued innovation and commitment to excellence. Their growth since being established in 1997 is remarkable, and this latest expansion marks another important milestone.”
Deputy O’Shea concluded:
“This development is exactly the type of forward-thinking investment we need – creating jobs, supporting sustainable construction, and delivering homes. It is a win-win for Macroom, for Cork, and for the country as a whole.”
