O’Shea TD welcomes over €9 million for Housing Adaptation Grants in Cork County
Mar 09, 2026
Fine Gael TD for Cork North West, Deputy John Paul O’Shea, has welcomed the allocation of over €9 million in Housing Adaptation Grant funding for Cork County in 2026, which will support older people and people with disabilities to continue living safely and independently in their own homes.
The funding is made up of Government funding combined with a contribution from Cork County Council, bringing the total investment in the county to over €9 million for the year ahead.
Deputy O’Shea said the scheme provides practical and life-changing supports for many families across Cork.
“I am very pleased to see over €9 million being made available for Housing Adaptation Grants in Cork County in 2026. These grants provide real and practical assistance to people who want to remain living independently in their own homes and communities.
“The funding helps support essential works such as stairlifts, access ramps, walk-in showers, bathroom adaptations and other improvements that make homes safer and more accessible for older people and people with disabilities.”
Deputy O’Shea said the grants are particularly important in helping people remain in their homes and communities for as long as possible.
“For many people, staying in their own home close to family, neighbours and their local community is hugely important. These grants make that possible by funding modifications that improve accessibility and safety.”
The funding will be administered by Cork County Council through three schemes:
-
Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability
-
Mobility Aids Grant Scheme
-
Housing Aid for Older People Grant
Deputy O’Shea encouraged anyone who may benefit from the scheme to consider applying.
“I would encourage anyone who believes they or a family member could benefit from these grants to contact Cork County Council’s Housing Grants Section or my office to find out more about the eligibility criteria and application process. These supports can make a very real difference to people’s quality of life.”
Deputy O’Shea added that the continued investment demonstrates the Government’s commitment to supporting older people and people with disabilities to live independently and with dignity in their own homes.
