North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the granting of full planning permission by An Bord Pleanala this week to Kanturk Community AstroTurf CLG for the construction of a new Astroturf facility for the Town. It was originally approved by Cork County Council in May 2020.
The site is located in Greenane in Kanturk, adjacent to the Colaiste Treasa gymnasium and plans for the new Astroturf were launched in the Temperance Hall in Kanturk in mid 2019.
Plans for the AstroTurf have been backed by a number of sporting and educational groups in Kanturk, including Kanturk GAA, Kanturk AFC, Kanturk Rugby Club, Scoile Mhuire, Colaiste Treasa, St Colman’s Boy’s National School, Kanturk Convent of Mercy Girls National School, Infinity English College, Kanturk Community Council, Kanturk Tidy Towns Committee and Kanturk Chamber of Commerce.
As well as the AstroTurf, the plans include pedestrian access from the town, car park and a lighted pedestrian walkway around the proposed AstroTurf. Cllr. O’Shea welcomed the granting of planning permission by An Bord Pleanala for the new amenity and encouraged the people of Kanturk to get behind the project now as we move to development stage.”This will be a wonderful amenity for the Town of Kanturk and for its hinterlands. I look forward to working with the group in advancing this project further now over the coming months”.
