O’Shea Welcomes Commencement of €13.4 Million Wastewater Treatment Plant in Castlemagner

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has welcomed confirmation by Uisce Éireann that works will commence on a new wastewater treatment plant in Castlemagner, Co. Cork this month, representing a major investment of €13.4 million by Uisce Éireann.

Deputy O’Shea said the project is a significant boost for the local community and will support sustainable growth and development in the area. “This is very welcome news for Castlemagner and the wider region. This major investment will modernise essential infrastructure that has served the community since the 1950s and ensure it is fit for the future.”

The project is being delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s Small Towns and Villages Growth Programme, which is designed to support development in towns and villages across the country, while protecting the environment and ensuring the continued supply of safe drinking water.

The existing wastewater infrastructure in Castlemagner consists of a septic tank designed for a capacity of just 50 population equivalent (PE). There is also a Developer Provided Unit covering the new Housing Estate and both systems will now be amalgamated. The new treatment plant will increase overall capacity to 500 PE, ensuring environmental compliance and providing the necessary capacity to support future housing, business and community development.

Deputy O’Shea added “This investment will not only improve water quality and environmental protection, but it will also help unlock future opportunities for housing and economic development in Castlemagner. Modern infrastructure is vital if rural communities are to thrive.”

Construction is due to commence this month and the project will be delivered by Glanua Ireland Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

“Once completed, this project will greatly improve the capacity and performance of the wastewater system in the area and enhance quality of life for residents. I commend Uisce Éireann and all involved for progressing this important development,” Deputy O’Shea concluded.
