O’Shea Welcomes Confirmation of New Community Centre Investment Fund for 2026 and Urges Cork Groups to Prepare Their Applications
Feb 10, 2026
Deputy John Paul O’Shea who is a TD for Cork North West has welcomed confirmation from the Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht that a new round of funding under the Community Centres Investment Fund (CCIF) will be announced later this year.
The Minister confirmed that more than €10.7 million has already been allocated to 189 projects across County Cork since the fund was introduced in 2022, as part of a total national investment of €110 million. The funding has supported the enhancement, refurbishment and construction of community centres in both rural and urban areas.
Deputy O’Shea said the announcement is very positive news for communities across Cork. “Community centres are at the heart of towns and villages throughout County Cork. They provide vital spaces for social, cultural, sporting and voluntary activities, and this funding has made a real difference to communities right across the county.”
The Minister confirmed that officials are currently finalising details of the next call for applications, which will focus on refurbishment works to existing community centres. The new funding round is expected to open in the coming months, with successful projects announced before the end of the year, in line with the Programme for Government commitment to make the fund a permanent rolling scheme.
Deputy O’Shea is now urging community groups to begin preparing their applications. “I would strongly encourage all community centres in Cork that are considering upgrades or refurbishment works to start getting their applications ready now. This fund is highly competitive, and early preparation will be key to securing support.”
Deputy O’Shea added that he will continue to engage with community groups and the Department to ensure Cork communities are well positioned to benefit from future rounds of the Community Centres Investment Fund.
