O’Shea Welcomes €138m National Roads Funding for Cork

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the announcement of €138 million in funding for national roads across Cork County, describing it as a major investment in safety, connectivity, and regional development.
Deputy O’Shea said the allocation will deliver significant benefits for communities, commuters, businesses, and road users throughout Cork, particularly in the Cork North West region.
“This substantial investment represents a strong commitment to improving our national road network and enhancing safety and accessibility for all road users,”
Deputy O’Shea said “I am especially pleased to see major funding approved for a number of key routes in Cork North West, which will have a real and lasting impact on local communities and the regional economy.”
Under the allocation, funding has been approved for the following projects:
N72 Roadworks
N72 Ballymaquirke East Pavement – €1,500,000
N72 Clonbannin Pavement – €3,500,000
N72 Meenaskeha Phase 2 – €1,900,000
N72/N73 Mallow Relief Road – €600,000
N20 Roadworks
N20 Buttevant NS Pedestrian Crossing – €82,000
N20 Buttevant North Pedestrian Crossing – €78,000
N20 Charleville Main Street RSIS – €500,000
N20 Charleville Relief Road Minor Works – €500,000
N/M20 Cork to Limerick Motorway Project – €3,500,000
N22 Roadworks
N22 Ballyvourney Pedestrian Crossing – €20,000
N22 Castlemore RSIS – €50,000
N22 Kilcondi Right Turn Lane RSIS – €10,000
N22 Srelane Safety Scheme Type B – €200,000
N22 Srelane to Ovens – €1,000,000
N22 Ballyvourney to Macroom – €3,100,000
Deputy O’Shea said the investment will improve road safety, ease congestion, and support sustainable growth across the region.
“These projects will enhance pedestrian safety, improve traffic flow, and strengthen links between towns, villages, and major urban centres. The continued progress on the Cork to Limerick motorway is particularly important for the long-term development of Munster,” he said.
“I will continue to engage with the Minister and Transport Infrastructure Ireland to ensure these projects are delivered in a timely manner and that Cork continues to receive its fair share of investment.”
Deputy O’Shea added that improved infrastructure is vital for supporting local enterprise, tourism, and quality of life.
“This funding is good news for families, businesses, and communities across Cork North West, and I will keep working to secure further investment for our region,” he concluded
